Equipment: Centrifugal Fan & Bespoke Telescopic Duct
Customer Requirements: Heat & Fumes are exhausted out the top of a plastic moulding oven, and released directly into the factory. These to be exhausted out of the factory, ensuring a more comfortable working environment for staff.
Viking was approached by APD here in Auckland. They have a unique plastic moulding oven that translates horizontally by 4m when the doors close, running back and forth along rails on the ground. It exhausts 250-350degC Air and fumes from an outlet on the top during operation.
Normally, high-temperature ducting could be used to pipe directly off the exhaust and out the roof, however APD has a large gantry crane running in this area of their factory, making this “standard” solution non-viable.
The team at Viking came up with an innovative idea to deal with this issue. Utilising a custom telescopic duct to cope with the 4m of horizontal movement the oven moves through, directed out the rear wall.
A centrifugal fan was used on the outside wall to blow cool air “into” the exhaust duct. This prevented the need for a significantly more costly fan that would have handled the high-temperature air directly, instead creating a lower pressure area in the exhaust duct which the hot air is “pulled” into, and out the exhaust cowl on the roof.
Bonus: Try and spot one of the two Ø1000 Viking Roof Fan Units we installed around the same time, to help with exhausting any transient hot air and fumes in APD’s factory!
